Burton Abrell “Abe� Gentry, 89, Greencastle, passed away Wed., August 3, 2011 at Asbury Towers.
He was born in Freedom (Own County), Indiana, the son of the late Burton Henry and Mabel Gentry. He graduated from Freedom High School and was a World War II Veteran, farmer, and retiree from IBM after 30 years.
Abe will be greatly missed by his wife of 67 years, Elsie; and his children, Linda (John) Frost and Loretta Fowler; four grandchildren, Tom (Erin) Fowler, Spencer, IN, Jennifer (Bill) Collins, Smyrna, TN, Sherry Fowler, Terre Haute, IN, and John R. (Kayla) Frost, Danville, IN; and nine great-grandchildren, Kellie, Travis, and Tracy Collins, David and Gage Fowler, Bailee, Marlee, and Macee Frost, and Dalton Davis. He is also survived by a niece, Cecily McDonald, and nephew, Douglas Gentry, both of California; and several cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David, California, and sister, Joanne, Indianapolis.
Friends and family may call from noon until 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2011 at American Legion Post 58, Greencastle. Burial with military rites will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
